Parisian Beauty secrets

When it comes to skincare, makeup and all things Parisian beauty, French women have a particular style, taste and a kind of je ne sais quoi. Every woman’s goal is to look their best when going out and to have their makeup look flawless. However, French women have a secret to achieving the best makeup look – by using less of it. It sounds strange we know!

According to the co-creator of skincare brand Caudalie, Mathilde Thomas who also wrote ‘The French Beauty Solution,’ “The key for me is keeping it simple, with an emphasis on the best skincare rather than makeup.”

French women like to accentuate and enhance their natural features. French women don’t like to go overboard with their makeup look. It’s all about striking the right balance. For example, a heavily coloured lip with neutral eye makeup and vice versa.

And to achieve the best makeup look, it’s not only about the makeup products they use, but they make sure that their skincare routine is on point. You don’t need to go to France to learn the Parisian beauty way of mastering the art of makeup. It’s easily achievable from the comfort of your own bedroom.

The French understand the importance of having a skincare routine which allows their skin to have a lovely glow look. It’s all in the prep of the skin. This is where your skincare routine comes in. It’s important to cleanse your skin, followed by a toner. Your skin needs that hydration and fresh look before applying makeup. Lastly, apply a moisturiser suited to your skin type and use a lip balm. Your skin is now ready for any French makeup look!

To start the Parisian beauty makeup look, first, you need to groom your brows. The best method to do this is to use a spoolie brush with some brow product and brush through your brows. Your brows play a vital role in your makeup look!

The French author, Mathilde also explains “Beauty is not something you turn to in a panic when a wrinkle or pimple appears, but that it’s far more important to see it as a ritual, figuring out what routine works best and carrying that with us through our lives.”

Next, it’s time to take care of the lashes. Allowing your lashes to stand out makes any French makeup look complete. Firstly, grab your eyelash curler and use a brown eyebrow pencil to enhance the space between your top and bottom lash lines. Finally, apply your favourite mascara to give your lashes a natural and uplifted look.

Now it’s time to apply some concealer. It’s important to use the right concealer for your skin tone. Apply concealer in the areas that need it most. It is usually in the areas such as the under-eye area, any spots/acne and any areas that have redness. Make sure to blend it in thoroughly.

Finally, it’s time to grab the highlighter of your choice. Gently dab a minimal shimmer onto your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, cupid’s bow and the inner corners of your eyes. By doing this, it helps to create that iridescent, glowy look all over your face. That is the French makeup look complete!

The key to the French makeup look is minimalism and naturalness. French women don’t overdo their makeup. As we said, they like to enhance and accentuate their beauty and not apply tonnes of makeup. You can then decide whether you would like a red lip and neutral eyes or dark eyes and a neutral lip to complete the look. As we said, French women like to find the right balance when it comes to makeup, it doesn’t need to be over the top.

Here are the best Parisian beauty secrets French women swear by when it comes to makeup:

Skincare prep is key

Having the perfect beauty regimen is key to achieving the French makeup look. They choose the makeup and skincare that works for them, not what others are using. French women are also strict when it comes to their nighttime skincare routine. They spend their money on the essentials and that’s about it. It’s all about simplicity. Speaking of simplicity…

They keep it simple

As we said, French women don’t like to spend tons of money on beauty items which aren’t necessary. They buy items that work for them and their skin. You won’t see their dressing table covered with lauds of eyeshadow palettes and different shades of every foundation on the market.

They love a red lip

I cannot imagine a French woman’s look without seeing a red lip. Red lips and lipstick are true French fashion and beauty statements. Usually, when they wear red lipstick, they barely wear any other makeup with it. Let the lips make the look pop.

No contouring is involved

French women don’t tend to use contouring palettes. They like to let their facial features and cheekbones in particular speak for themselves. Even if they have fine lines and wrinkles showing, no contouring is needed.

Perfection is not the goal here

French women love showing off their attributes, enhancing what they already have and letting their beauty speak for itself. They like to show their confidence in their natural appearance. Some of us may struggle with that, but French women believe that natural beauty is the best kind of beauty. And rightly so. France is the home of some incredible and iconic brands. Chanel, L’Oreal Paris, Guerlain, Garnier – to name a few. So, they use these Parisian beauty brands – and other brands – to their advantage.
