4 Curly hair problems and how to fix them.

natural curly hair

I always wanted natural curly hair growing up I even made sure that I ate all my crusts so that I’d get the beautiful looking natural curly hair I always dreamed of (eating crusts doesn’t give you naturally curly hair), if you have natural curly hair you will know that managing it can be a daily struggle.

Somedays you wake up and it’s a full-blown frizzy mess other days it looks like you’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards and the odd day that only happens when you have absolutely no plans what so ever, it’ falls perfectly into those beautiful tousled curls you had when you were younger!

I’m going to go through the simplest natural curly hair routine and help you get that hair back under control using the best products to use to tame that frizz no matter what length your hair is.

Step 1 – Shampoo

The first step to follow is getting the right products that help keep the curls healthy. There are lot’s of shampoos out there to choose from but I found that the best one is Sachajuan Curl Shampoo.

The shampoo is well known for its curl enhancing complex, moisturising properties and it also smoothes out the hair cuticle. This will stop your hair from getting all tangled up.

When shampooing your hair firstly use plenty of water then apply shampoo. You only need to shampoo your scalp the suds will clean the rest of your hair as it moves down the length.

Try not to be too aggressive when shampooing, you can apply pressure but try to do slow circular motions as it will help it from becoming too tangled and will be easier to comb after.

Step 2 – Condition/Treatment

The next step is Sachajuan Curl Conditioner it’s amazing and will help nourish and moisturize the hair after on a daily basis or after you’ve coloured your hair. You will immediately notice extraordinary changes in the appearance and texture of your hair.

If you have heard of Olaplex but thought it was just for coloured hair, think again! Olaplex No 3 aims to repair the hair preventing damage. This helps the fix bonds in your hair so for curly hair this is an absolute must-have.

Pro Tip – Use twice a week to improve the texture and bounciness or your curls.

Curly hair is known for being naturally drier so always use conditioner and apply a nourishing hair mask 1-2 times per week. I’m loving Kérastase Nutritive Mask it’s not heavy so will leave your hair feeling beautifully soft and manageable.

Step 3 – Serum

The serum is here to stay!

Without a doubt, they are the most effective products for the recovery and repair dry, damaged hair. Luxe Oil Serum is on my list of top 10 of the best products I’ve ever used.

It has 3 oils Almond, jojoba and Argan oil that will nourish your hair as well as condition, repair damaged ends all while leaving your hair weightless and bouncy.

I’ve been using this serum since it launched back in 2013 on myself and my hair clients. I’ve never looked back there is no other hair serum like it on the market that will give your hair all the nourishment it need without making it leaving any residue on your hair.

If you follow my Instagram you will know that I’m not a fan of products that leaving any sort of residue on my hair or skin!

Apply 3-4 drops of the serum onto wet hair before drying, then a few drops on dry hair to smooth out any bits of frizz.

Step 4 – Dry

The best way to dry curly hair is to leave it dry naturally. This sadly isn’t easy to do so here’s how you should be drying it.

Comb your hair by with a Wet Brush the large handle and spaced out bristles will quickly comb through tangles.

When drying your hair try using an old cotton T-shirt. The texture of a towel will roughen the cuticle causing more frizz, by using a Tshirt it will soak up the water without affecting the cuticle.

Pro Tip – Take small sections of your hair and twist from root to tip. When the hair drys and they unravel they will fall into a classic spiral.

When using a diffuser switch it onto the medium heat heating and medium speed. This will allow the hair to dry quicker but letting it fall in its natural state. Point the dryer down and tip your head upside down to give your hair more volume at the roots.

Finish off your style by spraying some Sachajuan Ocean Mist Spray. It will enhance the individual curls without weighing it down or leave it feeling crunchy.

There you have it how to manage your natural curly hair and get it looking perfect every time. Now that you have more knowledge about products for naturally curly hair. I hope that it will really help you improve the health of your hair.
