Hair Loss Tips
1. Regularly wash your hair with a stimulating yet mild shampoo and conditioner
To avoid hair loss it’s important to keep your hair and scalp clean and with that in mind, cleaning your hair regularly is key. Particularly during months like summer, when you can sweat more often and hair fall can increase.
It’s equally as important to be mindful of the shampoo and conditioner that you use. You want to use a shampoo and conditioner that is gentle on your scalp and that will stimulate your scalp, keeping it revitalised and aiding in hair growth.
I love to use the Roots Professional Imperium Stimulating CBD Shampoo and Conditioner duo, as this has 16 key active ingredients that help reduce hair loss and breakage and instead, revitalise the scalp and overall appearance of your hair.
CBD is a key ingredient when it comes to maintaining healthy hair and scalp, as it influences the natural sebum and oil levels, avoiding dry scalp and dandruff.
CBD has antimicrobial properties and is anti-inflammatory, which can help with conditions on the scalp including dryness and itching. It also reduces the risk of scalp infections that can lead to issues such as dandruff.
2. Don’t overdo it on the heated styling.
Using heat too often on your hair can lead to your hair becoming weak, fragile and damaged, which can result in hair breakage and the hair looking and feeling thinner in appearance.
Try to avoid using heated styling tools where possible and instead, use products within the Roots Professional range to give your hair volume and retain its fullness that will encourage you to wear it more freely.
For those with afro hair types, using the Roots Professional range is also fantastic whereby they can step away from wearing protective styles and embrace their hair’s natural texture whilst slowing down hair shedding.
3. Use a treatment at least once a week.
For a more intense treatment for your scalp, you should use a hair treatment at least once a week.
The Roots Professional Blast Scalp & Hair Prep treatment is the perfect pre-treatment shampoo that removes build-up, prevents and reverses dandruff, irritation, scalp itch and rebalances hormonal content in the scalp to name just a few benefits. It will give the hair and scalp a clarifying, deep cleanse, whilst also giving it moisture, allowing the hair to look smoother, shinier and easier to detangle.
You may also want to use your treatment alongside a scalp massager to help enhance blood circulation and stimulate hair growth further and to remove dead skin cells from the scalp whilst giving you a relaxing experience in the shower at the same time!

4. Avoid excessive brushing, especially when your hair is wet!
Your hair is at its weakest when it’s wet and therefore it’s so important to be extremely careful when brushing your hair to avoid the chances of hair loss.
Don’t be too harsh and vigorous with your brushing, start from the bottom upwards and try to avoid over-brushing your hair, instead, stick to brushing in the morning and at night if you can.
I always recommend using a bristle brush, especially to dry your hair and not a ceramic, as this can make the hair too hot and it can burn fragile and fine hair. Bristle brushes are softer and kinder towards finer hair and also give a beautiful shine to the hair when blow-dried.
5. Use a topical product
When it comes to hair loss, many women don’t chat about having hair loss and leave it too late to treat and men often sit back and lose their hair, without knowing there are products that can help them avoid hair loss and that can stimulate growth.
A topical is a product that’s specifically targeted toward hair loss that should be added to your hair care routine to help avoid hair loss and to get healthier, thicker hair. If you have suffered any form of hair loss it will also help with retrieving the hair you have lost if the hair follicles are still active.
The Roots Professional Topical Therapy can be used alongside competitor products, including products with caffeine, to help power up and intensify the effects of the products.
Roots Professional also have Topicals for specific types of hair loss, including De-Stress Topical Therapy for stress-related hair loss, chemically damaged hair, menopausal hair and anti-ageing, Care Topical Therapy for post chemo, post pregnancy or other hair loss due to medical reasons and Power Extensions Topical Therapy for hair loss due to extensions.

These are just a few hair loss tips and keep your hair in the best condition possible. Of course, you should also ensure you de-stress and practise self-care, that you get adequate sleep and exercise regularly and that you have a healthy diet and drink enough water. All of these factors can help you maintain healthy hair.
If your hair loss is more severe, contact a trichologist who will be able to chat with you further about your hair loss and provide a diagnosis and suitable treatment.
