The Trench Coat is a staple item to have in your wardrobe and here’s how you can style it.
History of the Trench
Trench coats have been a major trend in the fashion industry since the early 1900s, plenty of designers have created their versions of trench coats from the likes of Burberry, Dior, Celine, and Louis Vuitton the list goes on.
Designed in the early 1800’s trench coats were actually made for soldiers when the first variation was worn by the Dutch. Soldiers would wear them out at sea to keep warm as the coats were made from coarse wool fabric.
The British navy started the popularisation of the jacket. in 1879 Thomas Burberry invented a fabric known as gabardine, he later then went and submitted a design for an Army officer’s raincoat to the United Kingdom War Office in 1901 and ever since then trench coats have been trendy.

The Burberry Coat
We can spot the cream, black and red plaid design and just know that’s Burberry, even the most recent designs that only have a fancy ‘B’ on it. It’s amazing how we can identify a brand by just seeing the design, logo or style of an item. Over the recent years, the design of trench coats come in various different styles and materials like Leather, Gore-Tex and PVC.

Styling a Trench Coat
There is a huge difference between styling trench coats in the 21st century compared to the early 1900s and 2000s. We see in movies that women would style trench coats with tights and high heels. Even though it is still completely a thing to style the iconic coat as we see in the films as it is a very classy look. Nowadays there are so many ways to style a trench coat.
The best thing about trends is that you don’t have to buy luxury items to achieve the desired look as so many different fashion retailers produce various different designs of clothing.
