Exclusive Interview with Trishna and Disha Daswaney
Beauty has always been more than skin deep for sisters Trishna and Disha Daswaney. After spending more than a decade working across different corners of the beauty industry, the pair set out to create deeper conversations around identity, confidence and self-expression. Passionate about celebrating individuality and amplifying perspectives often overlooked by mainstream media, they believe beauty should be empowering, accessible and rooted in authenticity.
In this exclusive interview with Chic Style Collective, Trishna and Disha discuss the return of creativity in make-up, how wellness is reshaping the beauty landscape, and the outdated beauty rules women should leave behind.
The beauty industry is constantly telling women what they “should” look like what conversations were you hoping to open up through Let’s Get Ugly?
Having worked on different sides of the beauty industry for over a decade, beauty has always been our favourite topic of conversation. We wanted to create conversations where people could learn about the cultural, emotional, and personal meaning of beauty from different industry perspectives, ranging from creatives through to brand owners.
We also wanted to shift conversations away from just the hottest products to discuss what beauty means in terms of identity, confidence, ageing, wellness and self-expression. Some of our most meaningful conversations have been with guests who see beauty as a source of empowerment. As women of colour we also wanted to spotlight perspectives that mainstream media has overlooked.
As beauty insiders, what trends do you think are genuinely empowering for women right now, and which ones feel more driven by pressure and social media hype?
We absolutely love the return of colour and texture through make-up. It’s so interesting to see that individuality is coming back to the forefront and people are having fun again. Creativity is part of the DNA of beauty, and us as individuals. It’s impressive to see the reception of individual identity, rather than the clones of the clean girl 24/7.
Disha, as a beauty journalist and trend forecaster, what major shifts are you seeing in how women approach beauty and self-image in 2026?
Beauty is becoming more ingrained within people’s routines, and it’s more than just what you look like on the outside, beauty is now fully embedded in the wellness conversation it’s about how we sleep, the kind of supplementing we do, and the kind of mindfulness practices we engage in.
I think a key issue is a personalised algorithm, where you are flooded with your preferences rather than being able to explore other cultural codes which may be just as interesting to you. As a result we can’t really tell what we have in common anymore, and the concept of the psychological perspective of beauty is being transformed into something more surface level.

Trishna, Kohl Kreatives has become known for inclusivity and purpose-led beauty. Why was creating accessible beauty tools so important to you personally?
I think there is something transformative about us as a community being able to bond over communal beauty, the same way we desire to use all the same products used by our favourite beauty creators in tutorials accessibility should not be an issue. The idea of Kohl Kreatives is that beauty is empowering, fun and above all universal. Everyone deserves the chance to experience that and we want to be the bridge to that accessibility.
What’s one beauty rule or outdated industry standard you both think women should completely ignore?
Disha – you don’t have to look perfect all the time. Authenticity comes from flaws!
Trishna – covering grey hair, I just think, you do you! And actually grey looks incredible!
