The Spa Weekend Movie 2026: Cast, Trailer & Release Date

If your ideal girls’ night involves good friends, a little escapism, plenty of laughs and the fantasy of checking into a luxury spa with absolutely no responsibilities, Spa Weekend might be the film for you. The new comedy has already caught attention with its star-studded female cast and a premise that feels almost tailor-made for a girls’ movie date: four lifelong friends escape to a luxury spa for some much-needed time together only for their relaxing weekend to descend into complete chaos.

And with Leslie Mann, Isla Fisher, Michelle Buteau and Anna Faris leading the cast, this is one of the new 2026 films I have firmly on my watch list. Here is everything you need to know about the Spa Weekend movie, including the release date, cast, trailer and what the film is actually about.

What is the Spa Weekend movie about?

Spa Weekend is a new comedy about four lifelong friends who have reached the point where careers, relationships, families and everyday responsibilities have left them with very little time for themselves — or each other.

The women decide to escape to a luxury spa retreat for a weekend of relaxation, friendship and much-needed fun. Naturally, things don’t go entirely to plan.

The official synopsis describes the film as a story about the friends rediscovering how to take care of themselves and each other, before their supposedly relaxing getaway becomes a weekend of laughter and some very bad decisions. (Spa Weekend)

The film follows Jane, Coco and Sophie on their luxury spa break, while their chaotic friend Mel unexpectedly joins them and turns the supposedly peaceful getaway into something considerably less relaxing. (Movie Insider)

In other words: this is not quite the quiet luxury spa weekend we might have planned for ourselves.

And that is precisely why it looks so much fun.

Why Spa Weekend could be the perfect girls’ movie date

There is something particularly appealing about a film centred around female friendship. Rather than making romance the entire focus, Spa Weekend puts the friendship between the women at the centre of the story. It is about having a weekend away from the pressures of everyday life, reconnecting with your friends and remembering that you are allowed to have fun.

The setup also makes it extremely easy to imagine turning the cinema trip into a proper girls’ night. Think:

Dinner → cocktails → Spa Weekend → post-film debrief.

The film’s premise is particularly relatable for women who have reached the stage of life where getting everyone together can feel like an achievement in itself.

The official synopsis specifically focuses on careers, relationships, families and everyday responsibilities getting in the way of friendships — before the women decide they have had enough and escape for a weekend. (Spa Weekend)

And honestly, the idea of four friends booking a luxury spa and immediately making terrible decisions is probably more realistic than the idea of everyone actually relaxing.

Spa Weekend movie trailer

The Spa Weekend movie trailer gives us a much better idea of the tone of the film.

It starts with the women looking for exactly what you would expect from a luxury spa escape: massages, relaxation and some time away from real life.

It doesn’t stay peaceful for long.

The trailer quickly moves into the sort of escalating comedy you would expect from the team behind Bad Moms, with the friends getting themselves into increasingly ridiculous situations. The first trailer was released in May 2026, followed by another trailer in July. (ComingSoon)

The film is officially being positioned in the spirit of Bad Moms and The Hangover, which gives you a pretty good indication of the kind of comedy to expect. (Black Bear)

If you are looking for something serious, this probably isn’t it.

If you want 90-ish minutes of escapism with your best friends, it looks considerably more promising.

Who is in the Spa Weekend cast?

The Spa Weekend cast is arguably one of the biggest reasons to have this film on your radar.

Leslie Mann

Leslie Mann leads the ensemble cast and is known for comedies including The 40-Year-Old VirginKnocked Up and This Is 40. She is joined by an equally strong group of comedy performers, making this a particularly promising ensemble.

Isla Fisher

Isla Fisher is another familiar face in the cast, bringing her trademark comedic timing to the film. Fisher has appeared in films including Wedding CrashersConfessions of a Shopaholic and Now You See Me.

Anna Faris

Anna Faris is perhaps the most immediately recognisable comedy name for anyone who grew up watching the Scary Movie films. She joins the cast alongside Mann, Fisher and Buteau as one of the four central friends.

Michelle Buteau

Michelle Buteau completes the main quartet. Known for her stand-up comedy as well as film and television roles, she brings another distinct comedic voice to the ensemble. The official film website confirms Leslie Mann, Isla Fisher, Michelle Buteau and Anna Faris as the four leading stars. (Spa Weekend)

Who directed Spa Weekend?

Spa Weekend was written and directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore. The pair are closely associated with the comedy genre, and the film’s official positioning deliberately draws comparisons with Bad Moms and The Hangover. (Spa Weekend) That combination should tell you exactly what kind of evening this film is designed for: fun rather than film-school seriousness.

When is the Spa Weekend movie released?

The Spa Weekend movie release date is Friday, August 21, 2026. The film is being released in cinemas, including the UK, on August 21. The UK’s Digital Cinema Media film calendar lists Spa Weekend for August 21 with Black Bear Pictures as its distributor. (DCM)

Black Bear’s official website also confirms that the film arrives in cinemas on August 21. (Black Bear) So if you’re planning a late-summer girls’ night, this one has arrived at exactly the right time.

Where can you watch Spa Weekend?

Spa Weekend is being released in cinemas on August 21, 2026.

At present, the film is being marketed as a theatrical release rather than a streaming premiere. The official film website and Black Bear both direct audiences towards its cinema release. (Spa Weekend) A digital or streaming release date has not been confirmed.

Is Spa Weekend a comedy?

Yes. Spa Weekend is a comedy, with the story built around four friends escaping for a luxury spa getaway that quickly becomes chaotic. The film is being described by its distributor as both hilarious and heartfelt, with female friendship at its centre. (Black Bear)

It also comes from the writers and directors associated with Bad Moms and is deliberately being marketed towards audiences who enjoy that style of female-led comedy.

Is Spa Weekend like Bad Moms?

If you enjoyed Bad MomsSpa Weekend is definitely one to put on your list. The comparison isn’t just something audiences have made up themselves. The official synopsis specifically describes the movie as being made in the spirit of Bad Moms and The Hangover. (Black Bear)

The similarities are obvious: an ensemble cast, friendship, adult women escaping their responsibilities and a seemingly innocent getaway that spirals into chaos. The difference is that this time, instead of trying to survive motherhood, the women are trying to survive a spa weekend.

Is Spa Weekend worth seeing with your friends?

For me, this is exactly the sort of film that works best as a girls’ movie date. It isn’t trying to be an awards-season drama. It is an excuse to get your friends together, switch off for a couple of hours and watch a group of women have an increasingly disastrous weekend together.

And sometimes that is exactly what you want from a Friday night. The cast is strong, the premise is instantly relatable and the trailer promises the kind of silly, feel-good comedy that is particularly easy to enjoy with a group. So if your group chat has been saying “we really need a girls’ night” for the past six months but nobody has actually organised one, consider this your sign.

Book the cinema tickets. The spa weekend can wait.
