Who is Sabina Socol?

The Romanian-born journalist moved to Paris ten years ago, to study communication and journalism. After a year-long stint at a fashion magazine, she decided she preferred freelancing as a journalist. A decision that has propelled her career enormously.  Her eye for great style and imagery has led her to become an eagerly followed influencer. Her laid-back ease and bright smiles are contagious, and her “je ne sais quoi” French style is enviable—even more so considering that she is not originally from Paris.

Sabina Socol’s travels and adventures are regularly documented on her Instagram- She is a keen traveller to far-reaching places like Morocco and is often photographed in New York City for Fashion Week. Her style and outfits are always a talking point as she understands current trends yet gives them an evocative twist, making her style so captivating.

Instagram is a constant source of inspiration for effortless looks, mixing laid-back LA brands with her favourite vintage finds. She is an avid promotor of the preloved sector and this has had far-reaching effects on the wardrobes of many young budding fashionistas.

Sabina previously said: “I like La Mode Vintage for high-end curated stuff, or Pretty Box for rare finds such as kimonos or Edwardian blouses, I also shop a lot of vintage on the Internet. Etsy, eBay, and Vestiaire Collective are my favourite scrolls, and whenever I travel I manage to do some vintage shopping, as well. I just love the rush of finding something unexpected or something you’ve been looking for for a while.”

That’s the beauty of vintage shopping, the thrill of finding something unique and great value for money, along with that satisfying ‘feel good’ factor that you are doing your bit for the circular economy and ultimately the planet. Sabina Socol recently got married in a vintage John Galliano dress (worn by Naomi Campbell in 1996)- the retro French style inhabits all parts of her life.

What does Sabina Socol like to wear?

Like many French women, Socol’s style is simple, sexy and eclectic. Her daily uniform includes a high-waisted pair of jeans, a vintage knit, high heels, and a cute bag. Sabina openly admits that she has an obsession with Knits. She collected wardrobes full of them. Sabina’s collection recently increased thanks to the neat selection she’s created with London-based, vintage-inspired label, b.Fleurs.  A colourful cross-section of part French gamine, part swinging ’60s, and marries the Parisienne’s style with the girlish aesthetic b. Fleurs are known for, all at once.

For her winter collection of knits, the colour palette is joyfully almost spring-worthy, a conscious decision on Sabina’s part to ensure it can be worn year-round, cleverly banishing any winter blues. “I think of these pieces as ‘want to wear all the time’,” she says. “That’s how I work with my clothes. When I like something, I repeat and repeat it all the time.”

Prioritising longevity, Sabina champions a uniform way of dressing, she has staple pieces. Namely, high-waisted jeans — that act as a base. Preferring to go towards the same things, to save up and buy fewer pieces, but ones that I can style with many other items again and again.

She emphasises balancing outfits to make them work. Something that is at the heart of French dressing. Individual femininity can even work with Masculinity if proportioned correctly.

“Even if you do want to wear a piece that’s on trend, it’s important to have your basics that resonate with you and make you, you. That might be high-waisted jeans, or heels or jewellery. We all have those things that make us who we are. It’s nice to give in to a trend, but at the same time still be you.”
