The natural makeup look was definitely not the way we used to apply my makeup. Our akeup look was the complete opposite of a natural makeup look. We used to apply layers of full coverage foundation, harsh contour lines that were not in the slightest bit blended, thick light under eye concealer and layers of mascara on top of false eyelashes. It was the slap on as much as possible and hide everything makeup look.

We cringe at the very thought! It was a lot of layers to cover up all my insecurities of not looking like the perfect girl. We wanted our makeup to look like we were wearing as much makeup as possible.

These days we’ve realised that actually, makeup is to highlight and enhance your features not to cover up your skin so it can’t even breathe. We now have a much more natural makeup look and instead of covering our skin, It’s all about highlighting your best features.

In this article, we want to help show you how to get the natural makeup look and enhance your best features with minimal time and effort. All you need to do is follow each step to create the perfect natural makeup and shouldn’t take any longer than 10mins so it’s perfect for every day.

Preparation

Looking after your skin has to be the number rule to help bring out your natural beauty. You don’t have to use a ton of products just make sure you’re using the right products for your skin type. Cleanser, toner, serum and moisturiser for your daily skincare routine. That is all you need and of course drink plenty of water and make sure you’re getting enough sleep.

Primer

A primer is a perfect base to start with it helps your makeup last longer and smooth out your skin. A good primer will minimise the appearance of fine lines and open pores. CC creams [Colour Corrective Creams] can also be used as a primer if you are a prone to any red areas a CC cream can help even out your skin tone.

Foundation

Only if you need it! If you have great skin or freckles then a tinted moisturiser with SPF might be just what you need. However, if you like a little bit more coverage then Estée Lauder Double is the foundation.

We were so happy when they decided to release Double Wear Light it still has the same benefits as the original Double Wear. It’s still Sweatproof and will last 24 hrs but the light version is a softer medium coverage that gives you a natural finish.

  • Apply foundation with a damp Beauty Blender Sponge. This will help distribute the foundation evenly all over your face.

Pro Tip – Always test the colour of your foundation against your jawline, not the back of your hand as this will give you the best true match colour.

Concealer

Concealer can be your best friend by hiding circles under your eyes or covering up a pimple. However, too much of a light concealer can end up giving you white panda eyes and actually end up highlighting that pimple you’re trying to cover up. YSL Touch Eclat isn’t just an iconic concealer it’s a firm favourite with makeup artists too and also comes in high coverage edition. It used to be highly recommended that your concealer should be 2 shades lighter than your foundation but these days the closer to your natural skin tone is the perfect match.

Pro Tip – Dot concealer under your eyes and blend with your Beauty Blender.

Contour

Contouring (done right) is brilliant for sculpting your face and you only need a little. By creating a shadow will instantly sculpt and define your face with a cream contour stick. Apply just under your cheekbones and jawline blend in an upwards motion.

Pro Tip – Check your blending in different mirrors and lighting you don’t want any sharp lines anywhere it’s all about the bend.

Blush

If you are scared of blush don’t be a little bit will go a long way. Cream blushers are so much easier than powder, you can control how much you need. Simply apply with your fingertips it’s foolproof.

Pro Tip – When using blush smile and apply to the apples of your cheeks blending upwards along your cheekbones.

Eyes

Eye Brows

Makeup artists describe the brows as the framing of your face. Start by brushing the brows up with a spoolie and with a pencil drawing in the shape of your brow.

  • Hold a brow pencil at the side of your nose and dot with the pencil, this is where your brow should begin.
  • Looking straight ahead and keeping the pencil at the side of your nose angle it just past your iris – this is where the arch of your brow should be.
  • Then move the angle to just past your eye and this is the point where your brow ends. Link all the dots together to get your perfect brow shape.
  • Fill in any gaps with a brow powder and finish with a brow-setting gel.

Mascara

The false eyelashes are long gone a lash curler and volume mascara is all you need. Hold the lash curler at the root of your lashes for 10-15 seconds adding mascara the right way. For a natural makeup look, apply one coat of mascara just on the top lashes no need to apply any to the bottom lashes. This will make your top lashes appear thicker and longer plus saves time.

Lips

Lip balm or even your cream blusher is perfect to keep the entire look natural throw it in your handbag and keep your lips looking luscious all day.

This is the perfect makeup look for every day but if you had evening plans and wanted to change up your look you can quickly turn it around by adding a sweep of black eyeliner and a red lip.
