The natural makeup look was definitely not the way I used to apply my makeup. My makeup look was the complete opposite of a natural makeup look. I used to apply full coverage foundation, harsh contour lines that were not in the slightest bit blended, thick under eye concealer and layers of mascara on top of false eyelashes. I was going for the slap on as much as possible and hide everything makeup look.
I cringe at the very thought! It was a lot of layers to cover up all my insecurities of not looking like the perfect girl. I wanted my makeup to look like I was wearing makeup as I thought that was the point.
These days I’ve realised that actually makeup is to highlight and enhance your features not to cover up your skin so it can’t even breathe. I’m taking a much more natural makeup look approach and instead of covering my skin, I’m highlighting my features and so should you!
In this article, I want to help show you how to get the natural makeup look and enhance your best features with minimal effort. All you need to do is follow each step to create the perfect natural makeup look this makeup look will take you no longer than 10mins so it’s perfect for every day.

Looking after your skin has to be the number rule to help bring out your natural beauty. You don’t have to use a ton of products just make sure you’re using the right products for your skin type. Cleanser, toner, serum and moisturiser for your daily skincare routine. That is all you need and of course drink plenty of water and make sure you’re getting enough sleep.

A primer is a perfect base to start with it help your makeup last longer and smooth out your skin. I have huge open pores so I’ve found that a good primer will minimise the appearance of them. CC creams [Colour Corrective Creams] can also be used as a primer if you a prone to any red areas a CC cream can help even out your skin tone.
Only if you need it! If you have great skin or freckles then a tinted moisturiser with SPF might be just what you need. However, if you like me you need a little bit more then Estée Lauder Double Wear will always be a firm favourite when it comes to the foundation but is known for full coverage foundation.
We were so happy when they decided to release Double Wear Light it still has the same benefits of the original Double Wear. It’s still Sweatproof and will last 24 hrs but the light version is a softer medium coverage that gives you a natural finish. Apply foundation with a damp Beauty Blender Sponge. This will help distribute the foundation evenly all over your face.
Pro Tip – Always test the colour of your foundation against your jawline, not the back of your hand as this will give you the best true match colour.
Concealer can be your best friend by hiding circles under your eyes or cover up a hormonal pimple. However, too much of a light concealer can end up giving you white panda eyes and actually end up highlighting that pimple you’re trying to cover up. YSL Touch Eclat isn’t just an iconic concealer its a firm favourite with makeup artists too and also comes in high coverage edition. It used to be highly recommended that your concealer should be 2 shades lighter than your foundation but these days the closer to your natural skin tone is the perfect match.
Pro Tip – Dot concealer under your eyes and blend with your Beauty Blender.
You might remember me mentioning the awful streaks of contour in my early contour fail but contouring (done right) is brilliant for sculpting your face and you only need a little. With a cream contour stick apply to just under your cheekbones and jawline blend in an upwards motion. By creating a shadow this will instantly sculpt and define your face.
Pro Tip – Check your blending in different mirrors and lighting you don’t want any sharp lines anywhere it’s all about the bend.
If your scared of blush don’t be a little bit will give you a natural glow. I’ve found that cream blushers are so much easier than powdered. You can control how much you need easier on simply apply with your fingertips It’s foolproof I especially love the Rouge set as you can easily mix colours depending on how you fee that day.
Pro Tip – When using blush smile and apply to the apples of your cheeks blending upwards along your cheekbones.
Makeup artists describe the brows as the framing of your face. Start by brushing the brows up with a spoolie and with a pencil drawing in the shape of your brow.
– Hold a brow pencil at the side of your nose and dot with the pencil, this is where your brow should begin.
– Looking straight ahead and keeping the pencil at the side of your nose angle it just past your iris – this is where the arch of your brow should be.
– Then move the angle to just past your eye and this is the point where your brow ends. Link all the dots together to get your perfect brow shape.
The false eyelashes are long gone and a lash curler and a volume mascara are all you need. Hold the lash curler at the root of your lashes for 10-15 seconds adding mascara right way. For a natural makeup look, I use one coat of mascara just on the top lashes no need to apply any to the bottom lashes. This will make your top lashes appear thinker and longer plus saves time.
I love this natural makeup look as it’s simple and easy just the follow the steps and all of these products and ways to apply will naturally highlight your best features.
