Picking A Colour Scheme

One of the first things that you need to do is pick the right colour scheme. Yes, adding pictures of flowers and summer fruits will convey the message but you may want more. One of the key factors that ensure your home decor gives off that airy, summery, feeling is by opting for lighter colours.

Lighter colours like light blue, white, pink and even lemon yellow will not only match the theme but also make the space look bigger. If you have a house with plenty of windows, the sunlight will bounce off these lighter colours making it look more lively as well. Every room has different elements, and tying them all together is crucial.

Living Room

Your living room is one of the first rooms your guests will see. So, naturally, it is one of the rooms that reflect the house. Understandably, during the winter, you would want to make the space feel warm and cosy but not when summer is around the corner.

Changing the couch in the living area is not always the most practical (or financially sound) option. In most cases, changing the cover of the sofa might not be possible either. So instead, add a few lighter coloured cushions a much more affordable way to change things up. Adding a lighter colour to a dark room will lift it and give you some stylish contrast.

Additionally, you can change the curtains as well so ample light can come into the room even if they are drawn. Since darker colours tend to absorb light, going for lighter shades will be a better option.

Bedroom

Much like in the living room, the bedroom needs ample light as well. Have a look to see if you can create more space in the room. The more space your room has, the more light can fall in.

To make decluttering a bit easier, you can buy some storage boxes that fit the summer theme. Whether it is organising books, kid’s toys or even fresh laundry, a woven basket can be a huge help. If natural patterns don’t do with the room’s decor, a simple white basket definitely will.

With the room decluttered, the next thing is changing the colour scheme of the room. Ideally, changing the wallpaper or re-painting a dresser is what usually people plan on doing but this isn’t always necessary. Minimal changes like using light coloured linens or adding more floral throw pillows can work wonders. Duvet covers are the easiest way to completely change the look and feel of the room.

Bathroom

The bathroom is the easiest and quickest way to inject some colour into your home decor. Adding a few storage trays or changing the shower curtains can instantly transform the space. Another great way of bringing in the summer is by adding floral and fruity scents. And, if you’re willing to go the extra mile, then adding some artificial flower arrangements will create a summery atmosphere.

Decorative elements can beautify the bathroom, allowing it to match the tone of the house. Tealight holders, bamboo bath rugs and wood-based storage organisers are just a few ideas that will glam up the look of the bathroom on a budget.

Kitchen

If you have darker kitchen cabinets, why not change the colour scheme and go for something lighter. Turning to brighter coloured cabinets doors in the summer will effortlessly make any light shine brighter and thus create the illusion of a bigger space. Changing your dishes and cutlery will also give you a quick update.

You can also add more glass elements for a lighter appearance. Glass mason jars and or even ceramic serving dishes are a great addition in a kitchen with a light colour scheme.

Extra Details

We all know ‘it’s in the details‘. Little touches like adding floral scents are the easiest way to add summer to your home decor. Even if you change nothing in the room, a beautifully scented candle will change the atmosphere.

You can also add floral wall hangings, flowers or plants to elevate the look of the room. There are plenty of artificial arrangements that will do the trick.
