How to dress smart casual for any occasion

Smart casual isn’t a compromise, so stop treating it like one. It’s not “dressed down” and it’s not “trying but not really,” it’s its own category, and most people ruin it by hedging, half a blazer, half a trainer, all uncertainty. Wear the blazer like you mean it. Wear the trainers like you mean it. They’re not cancelling each other out, that tension is the entire outfit.

Here are five ways to dress smart casual properly, for any occasion, with zero hedging and zero explaining yourself.

Why Dress Smart Casual?

There are certain occasions where you can’t just opt for casual tees and denim, BUT you also can’t wear your formal suits! You certainly need to dress up in a manner that deems fit for a smart casual day and that would also make you stand out from the crowd.

Dressing smart casual does not just look super elegant, but it is also very sustainable, cost-saving, and less time-consuming. Why? Because you utilise your capsule wardrobe while mix-and-matching various different kinds of clothes. This saves time by saving you the hassle of buying and selecting outfits, makes you spend less money on clothes, and goes long-term!

Ideas For Dressing Smart Casual

You can easily carry such an outfit by wearing a plain or ribbed t-shirt, knotted crop top, or buttoned-down collar shirt over good pair of paper bag jeans, boyfriend jeans, or denim shorts. Invest in a suede jacket for women and throw it over this combo to add glamour. Or, you can opt for a loose-fit denim jacket for a street feel.

Loafers or sandals are great to go with this everyday attire. Lastly, don’t forget to carry a large leather tote bag in tan colour or a solid baguette shoulder bag currently trending.

When You Need to Attend a Wedding

What to wear at someone’s wedding is always a difficult question. You need something that does not look too much but is also equally graceful. This is where dresses suit the need with their countless designs. Wearing a knee-length or even an ankle-length dress is now a hot trend, which is a surefire way to rock a wedding event.

You can choose ones with bishop sleeves, puffed ones, sleeveless, or three-quarters, nicely gathered from the front and strappy from the back. Stay away from floral ones, but rather choose fine neutral or pastel colours. Wear stilettos or lace-up heels with this outfit while carrying a cute, chained clutch.

For Business – Casual Days

Suits are too formal of wear to opt for when you need to go business casual. However, an equally great choice would be choosing a blazer in a good shade, never compromising on the quality. Blazers can be carried over various tops, such as formal shirts, skin-fit turtleneck t-shirts, or poplin tunics. This duo matches the style of chinos and khakis, so make sure to wear them rather than choosing denim. Ankle’s length boots made of leather or suede would look seamless under this outfit.

If Blazer is not something you are comfortable in, choose a different outfit. You can do so by wearing a formal blouse with a short pencil leather skirt and knee-length boots. This is another outfit which is picture-perfect for business-casual events, ensuring sophistication and professionalism at the same time.

At Parties and Night-Outs

When you hear the word ‘party’, the first styling idea that comes to mind is anything with a leather jacket! This isn’t something outdated because women’s leather jackets are an ideal and timeless fashion staple, made in several variations suitable for everyone’s unique taste.

With that being said, parties and night-outs call for a biker or varsity leather jacket topped over a classic flannel shirt or a flowy blouse. However, you can also skip a jacket and wear a silk blouse if it’s somewhat fancy. To go with this outfit, you need a skinny pair of jeans or shiny leather pants.

High-heel platform shoes look very up-to-the-minute with this partywear. You may as well choose wedges or peep-toe heels, as per your overall outfit. Along with this, a quilted shoulder bag is something you can effortlessly carry.

It is always best to carry a messenger bag or satchel on office days. So, don’t underestimate the value of carrying a fine bag beside the standard laptop folder.

Outfits for Day Trips and Travelling

A random day trip or travelling needs an outfit that is warm and comfortable, wards off the dust to keep your clothes clean and is equally eye-catching. The perfect choice would be sweaters worn on top of denim, complemented with a straight coat. You can choose a classy coat made on houndstooth or a checkered one woven to perfection.

If not the above outfit, you can always go for striped or solid-coloured tracksuits. Sneakers are extremely comfortable and never go out of style so you can wear them with these outfits without a second thought. Along with it, carry a spacious duffle bag or saddle bag to look classiest!
