How to Get the Sloane Style

There’s something irresistibly timeless about Sloane style the polished, quietly luxurious look that’s as at home on the King’s Road as it is in the Cotswolds. As a fashion editor with a love for British heritage brands, I’ve long admired how Sloane women manage to look elegant without ever appearing to try too hard. It’s a look rooted in tradition—tweed blazers, cashmere knits, well-cut jeans, and perfectly polished boots—but it always feels relevant, never costume-like.

The original “Sloane Rangers,” epitomised by a young Princess Diana, perfected the art of understated dressing: equestrian influences, soft tailoring, and impeccable grooming. But today’s Sloane style has evolved. Modern Sloanes think Lady Amelia Windsor or TV presenter Rosie Tapner mix heritage pieces with contemporary minimalism.

Here’s how I’m recreating the look this season with my favourite pieces from the brands every modern Sloane woman knows and loves.

The Heritage Blazer

If there’s one piece that defines the Sloane look, it’s a tailored tweed blazer. My current favourite is the Holland Cooper Marlborough Blazer in Prince of Wales Check. It has that sculpted shoulder, nipped-in waist, and gold-button detailing that instantly makes jeans look refined. Pair it with a silk blouse or roll-neck and knee-high boots for an effortlessly polished finish.

The Cashmere Knit

A soft cashmere jumper is non-negotiable. I’ve been living in the Reiss Tilda Cashmere Crewneck in oatmeal—it layers beautifully under a trench or looks chic draped over your shoulders. For a more relaxed countryside feel, The White Company’s Cashmere Roll Neck in stone is timeless and buttery soft.

The Perfect Jeans

Sloane style isn’t about distressed denim it’s about perfect proportions. The Citizens of Humanity Annina Jean nails it with its high waist and straight leg that works with everything from loafers to riding boots. I also love Agolde’s 90s Pinch Waist Jeans, which give that slightly polished, model-off-duty fit that modernises the look.

The Classic Coat

Outerwear is where Sloanes truly invest. I rotate between the Barbour Heritage Liddesdale Quilted Jacket for weekends and the Reiss Hooded Trench Coat for city days. If you want to lean into quiet luxury, the Burberry Kensington Trench Coat is the ultimate heirloom piece—timeless, flattering, and worth every penny.

The Riding Boot

Nothing says “Chelsea meets countryside” like a pair of polished knee-high boots. The Fairfax & Favor Regina Suede Boot in Tan is an absolute icon—elegant enough for London, practical enough for long walks. For a slightly sleeker edge, Penelope Chilvers Long Tassel Boot in Conker Leather offers a sophisticated update to the traditional equestrian silhouette.

The Polished Accessories

A true Sloane never over-accessorises. I rely on Monica Vinader gold hoops, a Missoma chain bracelet, and my DeMellier Hudson Bag to pull everything together. These are subtle, quiet-luxury pieces that complement rather than dominate an outfit. Add a Holland Cooper Belt with Gold Buckle for a refined finish that ties the look together.

The Finishing Touch: Pearls and Perfume

Sloane style is all about small details. A pair of Mejuri Pearl Studs adds an elegant glow to the face, while Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia is the go-to fragrance for its crisp, floral British charm. It’s a scent that feels fresh, graceful, and unmistakably “Sloane.”
