Friends The Reunion.

The one we’ve all been waiting for!

Friends The Reunion has to be the most anticipated tv show in years. If you are a Friends fan like me then the news that there was going to be a reunion show was the best thing to come out of 2021. 

Fans of the show were expecting a brand new episode however, HBO made it clear that the show would be more of a look back over the series and catching up with the stars of the show. 

Friends started way back in 1994, it was a sitcom about a group of 6 friends living in New York and working their way through jobs, life, and relationships. The show soon became a huge hit all around the world. 

Friends ran for 10 seasons over 10 years and we became obsessed with all 6 characters Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry), Joey Tribiani (Matt Le Blanc), Ross Gellar (David Schwimmer), Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), Monica Gellar (Courtney Cox) and Phoebe Bouffet (Lisa Kudrow).

Each character resonated with you in some way or another and you would often ask your own group of friends which character they saw themselves as. 

After watching the show a billion times and knowing each word from every episode it still makes us laugh. It has stood the test of time (even if a few have tried to tear it apart). 

The Reunion.

The Friends Reunion show began with David Schwimmer walking onto the empty Friends set and the rest of the cast joining him one by one. It was emotional not just for the cast but as a viewer! This is a show that most of us millennials grew up with we have watched these people grow as we grew. 

It was like getting the gang back together and you were the 7th member of the group. The cast reminisced about the show and giving us little details that we never knew before like Courtney Cox writing her lines on the table of Monica’s apartment. It was beautiful to see them all together laughing and joking as if no time had passed.

James Corden hosted part of the show interviewing the cast whilst they sat on the infamous Central Perk couch. The interview was presented in front of the fountain that features in the introduction to every Friends episode (the fountain was in LA studios, not New York). In fact, the entire series was filmed in LA, not in New York.

The Interview

The interview had many celebrities including the producers of the show KevinBright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane. The producers gave us an insight into the background of how they came up with the idea and explained the process of casting each person to ensure they were the right people for the part. 

The show also featured past cast members such as Jack (Elliott Gould) and Judy Gellar (Christina Pickles), Janice (Maggie Wheeler), and cameo performances from Lady Gaga, Cara Delavinge, Justin Biber, Reese Witherspoon, David Beckham, Cindy Crawford, Tom Selleck, Gunther, BTS, and a few Friends fans. 

Of course, there was an obvious lack of Friends stars that weren’t at the reunion. Paul Rudd, Brad Pitt,  Cole Sprouse, Jane Sibbett, Jessica Hect, June Gable, Bruise Willis, Kathleen Turner, Christina Applegate, Sean Penn the list goes on. 

These were all obvious stars that should have been there on the night more so than Justin Bieber and BTS.  

The End

However, the reunion itself did not disappoint, it was full of emotion and nostalgia it was everything a Friends fan would want without ruining the series finale. 

Marta Kauffman explained that Friends was created as a sitcom for when Friends in your life are family, and with the natural progression of the characters getting families of their own Friends came to a natural end.

As much as some of us Friends fans wanted that reunion episode to be a brand New Friends episode 20 years later. This was the only way to have a reunion without tarnishing everything we loved. The friendship, love, and comical one-liners will forever BE funny.
