The Elemis Superfood Face Oil

Winter is when my skin enters its most dramatic era: tightness around the jawline, dullness across the cheeks, and that uncomfortable feeling that no amount of moisturiser seems to fix. Like most women with combination-leaning skin, I struggle with the paradox of wanting deep nourishment without tipping into oiliness or congestion. This year, the product that finally bridged the gap is one I’d somehow overlooked: Elemis Superfood Face Oil.

At first glance, it reads like another nutrient-dense oil for dehydrated skin types, but in practice, it’s one of the most elegant, balanced formulations I’ve tried in years. Lightweight enough for daytime, replenishing enough for overnight repair—it’s the kind of product that makes your skin look like you sleep nine hours and drink green juice (even if you don’t).

What Makes It Different

Unlike heavier botanical oils that coat the skin, Elemis created this formula with a blend of cold-pressed broccoli seed, flaxseed, radish, and rosehip oils, so it absorbs in layers rather than sitting on the surface. For me, the difference showed up most clearly in two ways:

1. The brightness: Within a week, my complexion looked healthier—less sallow, more “alive.” It’s the kind of subtle luminosity I associate with expensive facials or rich-mum wellness weekends, not winter central heating.

2. The comfort: The tightness around my nose and lower face vanished. I didn’t need to compensate by overusing heavy creams, which often backfire on me and lead to clogging around the chin.

It also pairs beautifully with active skincare. I can use my retinoid three nights a week without compromising the skin barrier a very rare feat in January.

The Application Technique (That Actually Matters)

One thing I’ve learned from facialists is that the delivery system of an oil changes its performance dramatically. The method that worked best for me:

Step 1: Warm 3–4 drops between the palms
Step 2: Press into the skin (no rubbing)
Step 3: Finish with a small extra drop around the mouth and jawline

If I want a more occlusive finish at night, I seal it with either a peptide cream or a ceramide moisturiser. During the day, I skip the seal and go straight to sunscreen it never pills under makeup, which is rare for an oil.

Who It’s Best For

After weeks of testing, here’s my read:

  • Dull, fatigued, winter skin
  • Combination or dehydrated skin types
  • Mature skin needing bounce + glow
  • Barrier repair post-retinoid or exfoliants

Not ideal for: extremely oily, acneic skin types that react to oils in general. For everyone else, it delivers what I call the “quiet-luxury glow”—radiance that looks like it comes from good health, not heavy product.

The Chic Style Collective Edit

If your winter skin feels both tight and dull, and you’ve been jumping between heavy creams and hydrating serums without finding equilibrium, this is the bridge product. It nourishes without suffocating, brightens without irritation, and feels elegant enough to sit within a refined beauty routine.

For me, it’s now a staple—and one I genuinely look forward to pressing into my skin on cold mornings.
