Interview with Edward Taylor

From backstage at Paris Couture Week to red carpet prep for the Cannes Film Festival, Edward Taylor has styled some of the most glamorous women in the world. Known for his effortlessly chic aesthetic and ability to create runway-worthy hair that still feels wearable, Edward Taylor’s work is regularly seen on catwalks, in campaigns, and across glossy editorial spreads. But beyond the glamour, it’s his down-to-earth approach and empowering philosophy that sets him apart.

In this exclusive 10 quesions with interview, Edward Taylor shares his expert tips for achieving ‘supermodel hair’ in real life, the red carpet trends you can recreate at home, and his golden rules for keeping your hair healthy, polished, and full of personality—no matter your age, length, or lifestyle.

1. You’ve styled for top runway shows and worked with international stars, but what’s the secret to achieving that ‘supermodel hair’ look in everyday life?

Preparation is the key to achieving supermodel hair in everyday life. Always use the right products to dry into the hair. These will give you the hold and foundation you need to keep your hair style looking good after styling. But most importantly, and my top tip is to wear your hair with confidence. Some of the most powerful supermodel looks can be so simple and it’s their confidence that carries it and makes people take notice.

2. What are the biggest red carpet hair trends right now that women can try at home?

The hottest trends right now are the simplest of looks, done really well. Popular styles this year included a classic ponytail, a tight ballerina bun or a slicked back look with a centre parting. It’s all about keeping the looks clean, sleek and chic, that should be your everyday staple. It’s also where you wear those styles – on top of your head, at the nape of your neck, change things up with a centre parting or to the side. These styles will aways be our go-to trends because they are so versatile.

3. What’s your approach to helping each woman feel confident and beautiful in her own skin?

Every woman is unique, and that is their superpower. No one else can be you so be proud and confident in your own skin. A great hairstyle can help women feel better, but ultimately it’s what comes from within that will really stand out.

4. What are your go-to haircare products or tools that you think every woman should invest in for that salon-finish look at home?

I always recommend the GHD hair straightener – the wide plate version is my go-to. I’d also highly recommend the new GHD Hair Waver for that mermaid wave look. GHD have created a range of products that can be used by professionals and are also available for consumers to purchase so everyone can create the same looks at home.

With a hair straightener you can seal the hair from both sides and then style it straight, use it to curl or create a sleek look. Tongs have their place, but they can burn the hair and cause damage as they heat through if not used carefully.

To keep hair looking good, I suggest having a day a week where you wear your hair up. Pop a hair treatment in such as Moroccanoil Treatment Original and use it to create a slicked back look. You’ll get great looking hair while also having a treatment in all day helping hair to stay healthy.

5. What’s your advice for maintaining healthy hair while still using heated tools to style it?

My number one piece of advice for maintaining healthy looking hair is to use a professional heat protector. Supermarket bought ones are not the same and are not always strong enough to protect your hair enough. Something like Moroccanoil Perfect Defense or Four Reasons Bio-Molecule Repair Serum works well.

I also recommend doing at home hair treatments to keep your locks in the best condition so you can play around with it and create different styles.

6. What the best chic, hairstyle that’s quick, effortless, but looks like you’ve had it professionally done?

For long hair, creating curls is always good as these can be brushed out to create different looks. Curl using a straightener, let the heat set and then brush it out to get that big bouncy curl. You can then change things up over the coming days. Tie it into low ponytail for that all important meeting and then take it out and brush it through to give you a different look for a dinner date that night.

Even putting your hair into a bun, you’ll get the textured look from the curls. For shorter tresses, create texture in the hair and use product to help take the fluffiness out and create a bit more definition. With short hair, it’s all about the less is more approach.

7. What hair trends do you see staying strong into next season?

As we go into summer, and we see the same at this time every year, everyone wants to be blonder and hair that’s a bit brighter. Do blondes have more fun? We’ll never know – brunettes can be having just as good a time!

We are seeing more textured, fluffy hair styles with more bounce and pointy ends. Softer styles and a more tousled look is key this year.

8. What are your top tips for adding polish and elegance to everyday hair, no matter the occasion?

Shine spray is the most underutilised product out there. Styling products help get that hold but shine spray can keep styles looking elegant and really finish off a look. I recommend Glimmer Shine by Moroccanoil.

9. How do you recommend women over 30 evolve their hair routines whether it’s through colour, cuts, or styling techniques?

It doesn’t matter how old you are, my advice is always the same. Do little changes at a time. Don’t go too short too quickly, do it gradually. The same goes for colour changes. Too much too quick can be quite a shock so by changing your style gradually you have time to get used to it.  All too often people go too far and end up hating the outcome. Little gradual changes often – that way you can change it up as you go along to get it right.

10. What’s the one piece of advice you think every woman should know about great hair and self-image?

It’s all about empowerment for women and the opportunity to create your own narrative. Look at Pamela Anderson, she is making a statement by going make-up free and being confident in her own skin by doing things her way.  Her choice reminds us  to be authentic on our terms. Confidence comes in many forms, and there’s strength in simply being yourself.
