Cara Delevingne The Louis Theroux Podcast
Some questions follow a person for a decade. For Cara Delevingne, that question has always been the same one: what was actually going on with Amber Heard, and was it really happening while Heard’s marriage to Johnny Depp was falling apart. After years of speculation, she finally answered it herself, on this week’s episode of The Louis Theroux Podcast.
Theroux raised it directly, asking Cara Delevingne if they were “going to mention the Johnny Depp thing.” She didn’t deflect. Asked whether Depp had been “driven crazy by the idea that Amber might be sleeping with you,” Delevingne explained that she and Heard had worked together on the film London Fields, on which Depp was also working, and that nothing had been happening between her and Heard at that point. What came later was a different story. “Later, after they divorced, it had, I suppose,” she said.
Theroux pushed for more clarity, and Cara Delevingne didn’t hedge. “No, I don’t suppose. I know. Yeah,” she confirmed, when asked directly. Theroux offered the word “entanglement,” a term Delevingne said she didn’t fully understand, prompting Theroux to define it as “a relatively short-lived liaison or series of physical encounters.” Delevingne’s response settled the question for good: “We were close for a long time, and then when they were going through the divorce, yeah, we were entangled, I suppose.”
She added a detail that places the relationship in a wider context, noting that Heard “was also entangled with other people” during the same period, a remark Theroux took as a reference to Heard’s later relationship with Elon Musk.
The Wider Conversation
The Amber Heard confirmation was the headline moment, but the episode covered considerably more ground. Delevingne discussed having both proposed to a partner and been proposed to herself, offering a rare glimpse into her relationship history beyond the speculation that has followed her for years.
She also spoke about a conversation with Harvey Weinstein concerning her sexuality and her desire to eventually settle down and start a family, a detail that adds an unexpected layer to an episode that has otherwise focused on her romantic history.
Elsewhere in the conversation, Delevingne addressed her past struggles with substance use, describing a period where drugs functioned as a coping mechanism rather than something she did purely for enjoyment. She spoke about the physical toll of working through fashion week without proper rest, describing one particularly difficult stretch of shows in London where exhaustion affected her ability to walk normally on the runway.
Why This Conversation Matters
What makes this episode notable is that Delevingne chose to confirm the relationship outright rather than let years of speculation stand unanswered. The exchange with Theroux is unusually candid, tracking the relationship’s actual timing rather than leaving it vague, and closing the loop on a story that has followed both women since 2016.
Cara Delevingne appears on The Louis Theroux Podcast’s current season alongside guests including Yorgos Lanthimos, Boris Becker, and Kyle MacLachlan, and the full episode is available here.
